Onuachu in Genk’s winning start in European playoff

Paul Onuachu was on parade for Genk as they kick start their UEFA Conference League playoff with an away win against Gent.

Onuachu played the entire duration as Genk secured a hard fought 1-0 victory against 10-man Gent at the Ghelamonco Arena on Sunday.

The Forward was impressive during the game and saw an effort cleared off the line by the opposition in the first half.

He forced the Gent’s goalkeeper into another save in the second half as Genk continued to search for the winner. Moments later he had a another chance, angling a shot but the ball didn’t have enough power to trouble the Goalkeeper.

Bernd Storch’s side finally found the breakthrough with the last kick of the game through substitute András Németh from a goal mouth scramble, he bundled home the winner for Genk.

Genk have now won the first of the six games in their European qualification playoff series.

Next up for the Smurfen is a home game against Mechelen, which holds Friday. A win will put them on top of the table.
