Onyekuru struggles in his first league start for Monaco in seven months

Super Eagles forward, Henry Onyekuru was in action for Monaco in their first match of the 2020-2021 French Ligue campaign against Stade Reims on Sunday.

 

Onyekuru was named in the starting eleven as Monaco began their campaign with a 2 – 2 draw at the Stade Louis II.

 

It was his first start in the league for the club in the last seven months, haven struggled to break into the team last term and has to spend the remaining part of last season on loan with Galatasaray.

 

Monaco finds themselves behind in the after just five minutes as Boulaye Dia gave the visitors the lead.

 

Reims doubled their advantage in the 21st minutes when El Bilal Touré scored from close range to go into the half time break with the lead.

 

Onyekuru struggled to make an impact on the game and Monaco’s manager Niko Kovač decided to replace Onyekuru with Sofiane Diop after just 45 minutes.

 

Monaco however fights to turn the tie around with Axel Disasi reducing the deficit in the first half additional time.

 

Benoît Badiashile scored the equalizer with just minutes into the second half, but the former French champions failed to get the all-important third goal of the game.
