Victor Osimhen and Napoli stopped by Mourinho’s AS Roma

Victor Osimhen’s Napoli dropped points for the first time in this season’s Italian Serie A after they were held to a goalless draw by AS Roma on Sunday.

Osimhen and his teammates came into the game at their back of eight straight win from previous matches and were unlucky to not secure their nineth victory.

After a cagey first half, Osimhen went close twice in the second half and almost grabbed the winner.

On the hour mark, Matteo Politano cut back a cross from the by-line for Osimhen, who hit the woodwork from point-blank range, then a desperate Rick Karsdorp tackle prevented Mario Rui scoring on the rebound.

On the resulting corner, Osimhen’s looping header bounced off the top of the crossbar.

Osimhen thought he scored the winner for Napoli when he had ball at the back of the net in the net on 88 minutes with a towering header, but it was ruled out for an offside.

The game saw Napoli’s run come to an end, while Osimhen failed to add to the nine goals he has scored this season.

The Luciano Spalleti’s side are still on top of the league standing with 25 points. They are level on points with AC Milan, but they have better goal difference.
