Lawal wants more foreign-based players in Eagles squad

Former Super Eagles winger, Garba Lawal has urged foreign-born Nigerian players to pledge their allegiance to represent Nigeria at the international level.

Lawal in a chat with brila.net said playing for Nigerian will give players recognition and presence for Nigerians to recognize and also honour them than waiting for call ups elsewhere.
He charged those foreign-born Nigerian players to come home and play for the national team and stop being afraid of the consequences.
“They should not be afraid and be thinking that when they play for the Nigeria national team,” Lawal said.
“So, I have no regret, recognizing me as one of the Sports icon today, is a pointer to them to buckle up and showcase their talent in the country,” he told brila.net.
Nigeria have had several foreign-born players who turned down opportunities to represent the Super Eagles team after they were consulted – Players like Chelsea duo Tammy Abraham, and Fikayo Tomori, Arsenal’s youngster Bukayo Saka to mention but a few of them.
