Torino chiefs to meet over Aina’s contract extension

Italian side Torino are set to begin contract talks with Super Eagles fullback Ola Aina over a new deal.

According to Calcio Mercato, Torino president Urbano Cairo and sporting director, Davide Vagnati want the player to remain at the club following his impressive performance this season.

Aina is entering the final year of his contract, and could walk away from the club as a free agent should the Serie A side fail to tie him to a new deal.

In addition, the former Chelsea player is free to discuss with any interested parties outside Italy from January 2023.

In other to avoid both situations, the club will have a meeting to discuss the possibility of opening negotiations with the Player’s camp.

Aina continues to impress under manager Ivan Juric, making six appearances for the Grenades in Serie A this season, despite not considered as the first choice during the pre season.

“Ola Aina ‘s contract with Torino is about to expire: the full-back is in fact linked to the grenade club until next June 30,” the website wrote.

“The director Davide Vagnati, together with the president Urbano Cairo, will therefore have to decide whether to start negotiations to extend the contract with the Nigerian player.

“Aina was heavily employed by Ivan Juric in the first few games even though he lost his starting spot on the left wing after Mergim Vojvoda returned from injury.”

The versatile full-back joined Torino on loan in 2018, before signing a permanent deal in the summer of 2019.
